Imagine your favorite theme park. The sights, the sounds, the distinctive little details that leave visitors in awe no matter how many times they’ve walked through the gates. Now imagine living there.

That’s the reality for future owners of this Arizona mansion in Paradise Valley. The locale is appropriate, because this house is simply paradise. Spread over 4.5 acres in the Phoenix suburbs, the property features its own theme-park-sized lazy river. It’s on the market for $18 million.

“It’s one of a kind. It’s jaw-dropping,” said listing agent Christopher Karas.

The property also features a regulation-size volleyball court, putting green, commercial laundry room, and two locker rooms.

The backyard—which is the size of a couple of football fields—has a pool and tables for 150 of the next owner’s closest friends. And if alfresco dining isn’t your style, then you can take the party under cover in the backyard palapa (a cabana-style hut). The seven-bedroom, 12-bathroom main home was designed at the direction of the current owners, who loved the Grand Wailea Hotel on Maui, HI, so much that they wanted to live in it.

The palapa

“It’s a place that’s very near and dear to their heart, and a place they’ve been going for many years. They wanted to bring a piece of what they loved so much about that island and enjoy it every day,” said Karas, referring to the Maui hotel.

Snaking through the property is the desert mansion’s most distinctive feature: an 180,000-gallon lazy river powered by jet turbine engines. Along the meandering river, you’ll encounter a waterslide, splash pad, rope swing, and—in case the traditional volleyball court wasn’t enough—volleyball pool.

The idea for the endeavor was so massive the owners purchased an additional lot behind their home. Then their idea for the replica resort really took off, with the owners consulting with designers and contractors, Karas said.

For a cool $18 million, you, too, can say aloha to your very own slice of Hawaii in the desert: Your very own private theme park and resort, with no lines or tourists to worry about. It’s true paradise in Paradise Valley.

“There’s not another property in Arizona, let alone the United States, that has this expansive of a lazy river backyard,” Karas said. “There might be larger pools out there, but I guarantee you there’s not something like this,” he continued. “You’ll never experience anything like this again.”
